investment research

Investment research used to be hard to get at reasonably prices, but you can now find a lot of research for free even from the most highly rated investment banks and investment firms.

There are many levels of investment research available.

One way to sort out the material, especially from investment banking sources, is to look at the individual analyst rankings.

These rankings have been provided by Institutional Investor magazine for over 40 years.

Usually, industry analysts at investment banks provide insight into the market situation of the specific industry and the major companies operating in that market.

These analyses may include specific recommendations to add, reduce, or stay put on individual shares.

Also, the recommendations may include weighting recommendations for portfolios, where different markets are weighted differently for portfolio purposes.

Finding Investment Research

Those who have investment bank contacts are usually in the best situation when it comes to getting research from these companies.

The bigger banks have analysts for most of the market sections, including equity, currency, bond, and derivatives market analysts.

Many of these investment banks have freebies online to keep potential clients reading their material.

Therefore, it pays to visit some of the bigger investment banks to get their material on the markets, for high quality analysis.

Apart from investment banks, there are other resources for investing research.

Brokerages, mutual funds, and financial advisory firms may offer research for free or for fee. There are also newsletters that contain financial analysis and advice.

You can also find people discussing their own research finding on online discussion groups, such as those to be found at groups.yahoo.com or groups.msn.com, for example.

The last time I checked, Yahoo! groups section for investments had 2812 groups, while the same search at groups.msn.com had 2744 groups.
