stock pick newsletters
Stock pick newsletters offer tips on individual stocks based on the publishers strategy.
What you'd expect from such stock market picks is the background research on the company picked as the stock of the day/week/month.
The pick is dependent on the strategy of the newsletter publisher, which usually is explained in the article accompanying the stock pick.
A word of warning is in place when it comes to newsletters and investment advice.
There have been investment newsletter scams in the past.
According to the SEC, some companies may pay the people who write online newsletters cash or securities to recommend their stocks.
The federal securities laws require the newsletters to disclose who paid them, the amount, and the type of payment.
The fraudulent newsletter publishers will lie about the payments they received, their independence to the companies they recommend, and the basis of their research, as well as their track records.
Also, some newsletters may spread false information on worthless stocks.
Some of the boldest of these scams have included hyping up a stock (driving up the price of the stock) and then selling their own holdings at good profit.
