investing software
Investing software include packages that provide real-time market data, analyzes, charting, strategy testing and other tools.
Much of these features may be included in the software platform package you get from a brokerage house for online trading.
At least real-time market data, charting, and basic technical analysis tools are pretty standard items on these tools.
Another category of tools altogether are software packages that offer trading based on certain strategies.
Traders who have developed these strategies sell them either as black-box solutions, where the rules of the trading system are not revealed, or as a system with the rules revealed.
There are all kinds of trading systems sold to investors, with all kinds of strategies, ranging from stock picks based on neural networks (pattern recognition) to technical analysis rules to trading rules based on astrology (no, really).
The bulk of these systems give buy and sell signals, thus not providing such research assistance as valuation models.
Therefore, many (even the pros) use spreadsheet programs to develop valuation models for stocks or other markets.
Investing Software - Developers
There are tens, maybe hundreds of different trading system developers.
Some are applicable over different markets (as they use only price data to determine market actions), while others use market specific rules and data.
Although almost invariably these systems show excellent results based on historical data, there are no guarantees that the systems work as well on future markets.
Some of the systems are overly expensive, well into thousands of dollars.
There are also discussion clubs that handle different trading systems, such as the Chuck Le Beau's System Traders Club.
That site, at traderclub.com, has several trading systems to buy.
