investment tips
Using investment tips isn't the way most people primarily invest in the markets.
Instead, tips are generally used to pinpoint possible areas of interest for further research.
In investments and in trading, a complete strategy, including risk management and rules about valuation as well as buying and selling methods, is important.
Tips, on the other hand, may be based on other peoples research and strategies, or on rumors about what might happen (an event driven strategy).
Therefore, if you decide to use tips as part of your strategy, always research the background of such tips in terms of your own strategy to validate it.
Doing your own research is important, because the motivations behind tip givers vary.
For example, there have been cases where fraudsters have driven the stock price of a thinly traded stock up based on false tips and rumors (and profited from the price swing).
Investment Tips - Resources
There are several resources for investment tips, including newsletters, discussion forums, and analyst reports.
The most quoted of these, analyst reports, may be available only to a limited number of people, based on client-relationship with the analyst's bank or brokerage.
However, there are ways to get into analysts' mailing lists.
The best way is to have a relationship with the brokerage or bank and ask to be included in the mailing list of the analyst(s).
Non-customers can also ask for this privilege, usually based on being a potential future customer for the company.
As for the other resources, there are hundreds of newsletters full of investment tips, ranging from locals' views on the Silicon Valley tech market to value investing newsletters and everything in-between.
One source with over 400 listed investment newsletters is located at newsletteraccess.com.
Finally, discussion groups on investing are full of tips.
You can find such groups from places such as groups.yahoo.com or groups.msn.com.
As is the case with newsletters, there may be self-serving tipsters around, trying to get others to buy/sell a particular investment vehicle in order to profit from the price changes.
Thus, again, doing your own research is of the highest importance.
