online brokerage ratings

There are several resources for online brokerage ratings, including customer satisfaction surveys made by research firms and ratings given by actual users for the companies.

Although the rankings do give some pointers which may help you find a suitable one, you should always get to know the particular companies and their products in detail before opening an account with them.

Some of the rankings made by research firms/magazines on online brokers include:

  • smartmoney.com/brokers/index.cfm?story=intro (2003 broker survey)
  • weissratings.com/News/Broker/20020514broker.htm
  • jdpower.com/cc/finance/search.asp?CatID=5 (2003 Online Trading Investor Satisfaction Study)
  • keynote.com/solutions/performance_indices/broker_index/broker_trading.html (Keynote Web Broker Trading Index)

Online Brokerage Ratings - Other Resources

In addition to the ratings as described above, there are also personal opinions of clients of these brokerages.

These opinions are aired at the available opinion sites, such as epinions.com. Many of these sites provide ratings to go with the opinions.

Other similar resources are bulleting boards, chat rooms, and online groups.

Reading the past logs of discussions can reveal many good points on the online broker, even though you may not get an actual rating.

For example, there was at least one group dedicated to brokerage discussion at Yahoo! Groups and other discussions on the subject at more specific group discussions (on particular trading styles, to name one category.)
