Even though the recent events with LUKOS remind investors of the underlying country-specific risk in investing to Russia, investor demand for Russian assets has been high. One popular way to invest in these markets has been emerging market funds. The strategy may be an outright strategy to profit on a view on how emerging markets develop, or an effort to diversify portfolio risk, for example. As for demand for Russian assets, Russian Finance Minister Aleksey Kudrin announced that the foreign investment accumulated in the economy of the Russian Federation currently totals 100bn dollars. The information was revealed by the Minister on a parliamentary hearing at the State Duma on the implementation of the law on benefit payments. |
